The Setlist for May 2, 2025

Introduction

First: Give $10 to Worry Bead Records. You’ll do good, feel good, and help a fellow human who desperately needs it.

It’s Bandcamp Friday, so if you were thinking about buying some music or merch, today’s the day. I’ll be sharing my picks sometime before noon on Instagram and Bluesky.

If you’re reading this and you know things about the indie music scene in The Netherlands, reach out, will you? Seems to me about 40% of the country’s population is in a ripping indie band, and I need to know what’s going on there. I think there’ll be a post about it at some point.

Got a record I should hear? Let me know about it.

Standout tracks

“Scream if You Wanna Go Faster” by The Vorgs
See that car in the video? That’s exactly the kind of car that you would have caught me in in high school blasting this song out of a terrible stereo. Brilliant.

“I Can Be Convinced” by Starling
This is the first I’ve heard this band – their sound is pretty distinctive, the song’s been in my head all day, and the video is reminiscent of Smells Like Teen Spirit, but ballerinas instead of cheerleaders. And less chaos. Let’s go.

“Bad Dream” by Bindy
Bindy has a very NYC indie sound. Can’t wait to hear more from this band.
