Singles for May 12, 2025

New music from Jock, Trop Mal, Beattie, and CARNE.

On Mondays, I feature great music by artists I’m excited to share but not enough for a full post. I’ll include what I can but these are bands and artists at the beginning of their careers, working to build a following when it’s tougher than it’s ever been.

Jock — Joe Duffy

This punk band claims both Brighton and Belfast as their hometown. Five singles out over the past couple of years, and they’re all bangers. Not sure what to expect in terms of an EP or album, but in any case you’ll definitely see it here.

Trop Mal – Ode to the Oligarchs

Mal has a kind of alt-hip hop indie music sound, but the handful of singles she’s released so far span pretty much every genre. I hope to do a larger feature on her music soon.

Beattie – All My Innocence Has Been Ridden EP

Beattie’s debut EP came out on Friday, it’s lush, gentle and lovely, I’ve had it in rotation all weekend. There’s not much about her online, but watch this space.

CARNE — J.U.M

“J.U.M.” is the raw and aggressive first single from this Brighton rock band. Carmen Mellino’s voice has an edge to match the sinister lyrics. It’s a fierce debut.
