Every Monday I highlight music from artists who’ve just landed on my radar—acts you need to hear, even if they haven’t made it to a full post here yet. It’s a glimpse at what might be main-page stuff soon on Turn & Work.
Sleepers Club — Done Sailing
Sleepers Club is a duo from Atlanta. “Done Sailing” is their patio-ready debut single, and singer Sydney Ward’s voice reminds me a bit of Neko Case.
feeling it fearing it — i hate he left you
Don’t know much about feeling it fearing it: it appears to be a one-man operation from a guy named Rupert Lange from Arkansas. They have a couple other songs on streaming that have the same lo-fi slacker vibe as this one. Good stuff.
MORN — Modern Man
A London band that just signed to Speedy Wunderground. All they need is a Lou Smith video to hit the turn and work trifecta. Love this sound, I imagine we’ll hear a lot of this band in short order.
Oral Habit — Garage Frock
2025? 1992? 1970? Who cares. The sound worked for The Stooges and the Jesus Lizard, and it’s working for Oral Habit. EP coming out July 11 — watch this space.
Eden Sterling — Threshold
I was surprised to see that this is Eden Sterling’s second time on the site — she was on a Friday Setlist back in April too. That’s everything I know about her.
AVATAREDEN — MONO
AVATAREDEN is pitched as “a trans-fronted, genre bending band that combine indie rock deliciousness with Latin-fusion and psychedelic textures.” This is part one of three. Just a beast of a song. Love it.
