Every Monday I highlight music from artists who’ve just landed on my radar—acts you need to hear, even if they haven’t made it to a full post here yet. It’s a glimpse at what might be main-page stuff soon on Turn & Work.
Bridget. — Hairspray
Bridget. isn’t a new artist but this was my introduction to her. Razor-sharp and blazing fast, with a bit of an early-90s heavy rock feel. The video is pretty fierce too.
Dissolved Girl — Granite State
Dissolved Girl has been releasing singles at a careful pace. This is the second one I’ve featured here, and hopefully it’s the part of a larger project. No doubt you’ll see it here if it is.
Deep Bleak — Perfect Drift
The third single for the UK-based dark post-punk trio in the lead-up to their debut EP. No release date that I could find. Watch this space, I guess.
RIP Magic — Dox
This video has the fastest visual hook — in the first like 6 seconds, it had me. RIP Magic has released two short, riveting singles. One of the two members is from blog fave Sorry. So much to recommend it.
Toy Shaw — Birthplace (The Same Way)
The chorus of this song is such an earworm. Toy Shaw has been releasing singles for a couple years now, but this the first I’ve heard from her. It’s gentle and poppy, and absolutely addictive.
Cut Cult — Dinosaur
Cut Cult is a trio from Nova Scotia, including members from Holy Fuck. Dinosaur is their second single. I was going to post the also-excellent Lame Horse, but this one is a little bit fresher!
Peach Pact — A.ajax
Peach Pact is from North Bay, Ontario, a place I know well (Allison the Bookman forever). This is their debut single. Album’s out on Friday. Can’t wait to hear it.
garbagepink — idiot now
The algorithm introduced me to Swedish indie-pop artist garbagepink — I haven’t had time to dive into her other singles, but this has a fantastic opening line and the sound is perfect for the warmer weather.
